IPRA, in collaboration with the OECD and the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS), hosted its fourth annual conference at the OECD Headquarters in Paris in June 2019. The international association was formally announced at the conference, and will host consecutive conferences.
Over 150 delegates attended the international conference, including speakers and representatives from Australia, USA, the Netherlands, UK, and other nations. Dr Alexander Robson, Australia's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the OECD was among the participants.
The conference theme was Developments in Pensions.
The first conference session addressed implications of morbidity and mortality trends and forecasts for pension programs, and was followed by a keynote address on global opportunities for retirement plan innovation, delivered by Professor Robert C. Pozen, Senior Lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management and non-resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.
The second session addressed the challenges focused on nonstandard work arrangements, for example in the gig economy, and retirement income, with the third session exloring clean pensions and factors impeding effective delivery of retirement income.
A special session was dedicated to the announcement of the International Pension Research Association (IPRA) where CEPAR Co-Deputy Director Professor Hazel Bateman was introduced as the inaugural President of IPRA.
IPRA is a collaboration between the Pension Research Council at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (USA), Netspar at Tilburg University (The Netherlands), CEPAR (Australia), and the OECD.
